PROPOSED LIQUID NATURAL
GAS (LNG) PIPELINE UPDATE

The GKCA has been actively following this issue that has received much media attention. The media has focused on the LNG impact at the proposed facility location in the Dundalk area and the potential effect in Fallston where the pipeline is proposed to run through the property of their school complex. Since the focus has not been on Kingsville, we wanted to make residents aware that the possible route proposed would mostly follow the BGE power lines that cut through the Kingsville area. Ultimately, the pipeline is to be connected to a line in Pennsylvania.

On August 11, 2008 Baltimore County Executive Jim Smith announced that the County would file a petition asking the U.S. Supreme Court to uphold the County’s lawful right to prohibit liquefied natural gas (LNG) facilities in Baltimore County’s portion of the Chesapeake Bay Critical Areas.

WORKING WITH NORTH
COUNTY PRESERVATION

GKCA has been working closely with and supporing North County Preservation in their efforts to protect the character of the rural parts of Baltimore County. Kingsville is on the "front lines" of this struggle to prevent the expansion of urban development into our neighborhoods. During the past year, North County Preservation has prepared technical information for our Councilman Bryan McIntire to assist in his difficult task of deciding on the 234 rezoning issues within the third councilmanic district. NCP is now working on several projects, including an agriculture study intended to increase the viability of local agriculture in our economy, and a study to improve the process of revising the County's Master Plan. For more information concerning North County Preservation, visit their web site at: NorthCountyPreservation.org.

KINGSVILLE PARADE
JULY 4TH, 2008

By all accounts, the 28th consecutive Kingsville Parade was a great success in the celebration of this year’s theme "Our Legacy of Freedom: Support our Troops, Honor our Veterans", presented by Hope Hill, a 1st grader from Mountain Christian School. In recognition of this theme, two Grand Marshals were honored, Raymond Corbin, Jr. a Navy veteran of World War II and Daniel L. Conte, a specialist with the Army National Guard.

Once again, the "Fly By" from the Maryland Air National Guard was coordinated with the national anthem sung by Patricia Cooper and John Carroll High School Band led by Dan Briggs…what an awesome experience.

We salute the 81 soldiers from Beta Company, 143rd Ordnance Battalion from Aberdeen Proving Ground who joined us to help early morning setup, marching in the parade and final breakdown. For their assistance, they enjoyed a breakfast sandwich from Fallston Burger King, complimentary lunch provided by Elmer Kurrle of Kingsville Market and an evening with the Ironbirds in Aberdeen sponsored by Pete’s Pickins, Salvo Auto Parts, Thrivent Financial, Daves Tag and Title Service, and G&M Automotive Sales & Service. The success and tradition of the Kingsville Parade would not be possible without the tremendous support from the following business and community sponsors that provide preparade entertainment, band sponsorships and general operating funds:

WIND POWER - REGULATING WINDMILLS
Several Baltimore County residents have applied for variances from the current 15 foot height limit for "accessory" structures, in order to place windmills on their properties. Prompted by these cases, the County Council’s July 7th resolution calls on the Planning Board to propose amendments to the Zoning Regulations to regulate the location and use of windmills for residential energy use.

Carroll County has recently adopted new regulations, which will

allow windmills up to 150 feet depending on the size of the property.

Maryland Energy Administration indicates there are few places within Baltimore County with enough wind to make a windmill worth the investment cost.

To calculate the wind, and possible savings, for your property, go to energy.maryland.gov/facts/renew-
able/wind.asp for an online wind calculator.

GKCA will be closely following this matter.
